Fourier Transform (FT)

The Fourier Transform (FT) is a mathematical method that allows a signal to be decomposed into its frequency spectrum.

An example application would be the decomposition of an audio signal in waveform into its pitches (and the intensities of these).

The standard FT describes the case for continuous signals, while the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) is the more commonly used variant.
