Markup Languages

Markup languages are used to annotate text in a way that makes it machine-readable. The syntax and formatting elements (e.g. headings, paragraphs, lists) allow defining the structure and presentation of a document.

Examples are HTML (web pages), XML (data exchange), and Markdown (text files).
