Operating System (OS)
An operating system (OS) is the system software that manages computer hardware and software resources, and provides common services for computer programs.
Real-time operating system (RTOS)
A real-time operating system (RTOS) forms the counterpart to a general-purpose operating system (GPOS). A GPOS can be considered to be a conventional OS, which includes task scheduling, resource management, general device drivers and indeterminism (due to is scheduler) among its characteristics - unlike most RTOS.
